Council Member Paul Vallone hosted the Annual Celebration of Italian Heritage event at City Hall on October 5th, with City Council Speaker Melissa Mark- Viverito and Council Member Vincent Gentile. Hundreds of guests filled the Council Chambers and were treated to performances by the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts Concert Choir and the incredible Carlo Lauricella. The Italian Consul General for New York, Francesco Genuardi, made an appearance to address the crowd. Those honored with City Council Proclamations included Gary J. Perone, Assistant General Manager for the Brooklyn Cyclones, Giovanni Savarese, Head Coach of the New York Cosmos, and Jack Gaeta, Manager of Team Operations for the New York Cosmos.
“The Italian Heritage Celebration at City Hall was a true testament of what the Italian-American community is all about – family, faith, pride in our country and always celebrating our heritage, especially as we Italians are preparing to celebrate Columbus Day. It was an honor to once again co-host the celebration with our Speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito and Council Member Vincent Gentile,” said Vallone. “As always it was an incredible event that celebrated the rich culture and lasting contributions of Italians and Italian-Americans. Congratulations to our honorees – the New York Cosmos’ Jack Gaeta and Giovanni Savarese! Thank you to the performers, caterers, attendees and hard working staff who made this evening possible.”
