District 19, 23 budget voting set

Residents of City Council Districts 19 and 23 are reminded that they can vote on funding for potential projects from April 12 to 19 in various locations.

Councilman Paul Vallone represents District 19 and Mark Weprin represents District 23 and are among 23 members who are allowing their constituents to decide on how to spend $1 million on community improvement projects for such things as parks, schools and libraries.

They have been holding meetings with community volunteers, who have amassed 10 projects. Anyone who lives in those districts and is at least 16 years old can vote. Residents will vote on their top five choices. The top three will split the money.

“Participatory budgeting is a unique process that empowers the community by giving residents a real say in how money in the district is spent,” Weprin said.

In District 19, voting takes place Monday through April 19. For locations and times call Vallone’s office at (718) 619-8611.

In District 23, voting will be held Sunday through April 19. For specifics, call Weprin’s office at (718) 468-0137.
