Councilman Paul Vallone, D-Bayside, has been named to six City Council committees, including the Subcommittee on Senior Centers, for which he will act as chairman.
The other committees on which the councilman will sit include Fire and Criminal Justice, Small Business, Veterans, Waterfronts and Mental Health, Developmental Disability, Alcoholism, Drug Abuse and Disability Services.
As chairman of the subcommittee on seniors, he said he would be able to take a leadership role on issues facing the city’s elderly population.
“I have worked for over 22 years as an elder law and general practice attorney and I believe I can bring considerable knowledge and real experience to this committee,” Vallone said. “I understand the issues and concerns facing our seniors and am very aware of the resources the city provides on a daily basis to ensure a dignified and proper quality of life for all seniors.”
He said he was also pleased to have been named to the Fire and Criminal Justice committee since he was formerly a member of the city’s Board of Corrections.
His brother, Peter Vallone Jr., previously acted as the chairman of the city’s Public Safety committee.
